At this time of year, it’s understandable to feel low and unmotivated. It’s getting a lot colder outside. The daylight hours are shrinking and cozy blankets are calling me to hibernate on the couch. At least, I thought that might be my problem when I couldn’t drum up the energy to write.

The Cure.

I was surprised to discover that my “writer’s block” was cured by something that I’ve used many times with my students. I was grateful to receive recognition from a friend. Yup, that’s it. One person reaching out to me and expressing appreciation for my efforts was all it took to get my ideas flowing again. I wasn’t tired or lacking in ideas after all.
Power In Recognition

I’d forgotten about the power of recognition. I used this power all the time when I was teaching. Recognize the effort a student was putting into a challenging assignment and suddenly they’d find the extra energy needed to complete it. Recognition works wonders to make people feel appreciated, motivated, more secure and happy with the work they’re doing.*
Spread The Recognition
Recognition doesn’t need to be confined to the workplace. It can be extended to any projects people do at home or in the community. Here’s a little video recognition challenge from motivational speaker, Mel Robbins:
When reaching out to friends, family, or a salesperson who you see regularly, try some recognition. Pass it on.
