Who Inspires You?

Older women who are living their lives authentically without a worry about cultural norms or fashions, are inspiring to me. They are folks who have designed their life to suit them, not their partners or children or society. Some start businesses, some sell their homes and travel, some learn new skills, and others continue to develop their passion projects. They follow their own paths and continue to grow. I am fascinated by them.

Podcast: Wiser Than Me

One of the most popular new podcasts of 2023, is Wiser Than Me with Julia Louis-Dreyfus* (yes, she played Elaine on Seinfeld). Julia interviews inspirational women from the arts and entertainment industry that all have authenticity in common. From Jane Fonda, and Carol Burnett to her own mother, Julia’s conversations encourage these women to share their wisdom. Carol Burnett explained that you have to “make your own breaks” to succeed. No one will do it for you. She also wisely stated that if she lost an audition to someone else, she would remind herself that it just wasn’t her turn yet. What a healthy mindset!

Glorious Broads Are Everywhere

There are inspirational women all around us if we choose to take note. On Instagram I follow an account called Glorious Broads that interviews older women who are breaking down barriers and living their lives authentically.*** They are not famous or wealthy or even accomplished. They are just genuinely themselves.

My Homework

I’m intentionally feeding myself stories, videos and podcasts about these older, wise women. Seeing that it is possible, is edging me closer to accepting myself with all my flaws and becoming more a more authentic version of me.
